A QUIET DAY IN THE QUARTER

It was quiet this morning in the French Quarter, also known as Vieux CarrĂ© - or the “Quarter” to locals. The walk through this community where residents take time to reminisce with neighbors about times gone by and to welcome visitors in the streets was pleasant and as exciting as it usually is. We had some interesting conversations with those who were strolling along just as we did, shared some laughs, and discussed the Saints…
Intimate and unique, New Orleans’ oldest neighborhood has exerted a spell over writers and artists since the time of Mark Twain, Lafcadio Hern and John James Audubon.

Hollywood celebrities and software magnates have joined the residential mix, keeping the glamour up-to-date, but it is the year-round local residents who keep the neighborhood vibrant.

HOUSING AFFORDABILITY SLIPS

Nationwide housing affordability slipped several notches as recovering markets witnessed significant firming of home prices in the second quarter.
Housing affordability has been hovering near historic highs for the past several years, largely due to exceptionally favorable mortgage rates and low prices during the recession. Now that markets across the country are recovering, home values are strengthening at the same time that the interest rates are going up, cost of building homes is rising due to tightened supplies of building materials, developable lots and labor. Rising home prices signal the improving health in housing markets.
